MLC Youth Detention Center Strengthens Existing Rehabilitation Efforts with New 6-Month Therapeutic Arts & Reintegration Program
St. Maarten — MLC Youth Detention Center is pleased to announce the implementation of a 6-Month Therapeutic Arts, Crafts & Reintegration Program, introduced to enhance and complement the strong rehabilitation framework already established at the facility. This program follows a successful 6-week pilot and is delivered in collaboration with Protect NextGen and Christ Transformed Global Ministries.
MLC remains committed to the growth, stability, and reintegration of every young person entrusted to its care. For years, the center’s dedicated staff has provided structured guidance, discipline, mentoring, and behavioral support.
The new therapeutic initiative builds on these foundations, offering additional tools to strengthen emotional literacy, self-control, and creative expression.
Building on MLC’s Existing Rehabilitation Success
The 6-week pilot earlier this year showed that creative therapeutic activities can further amplify the daily work carried out by MLC’s officers, behavioral staff, and internal support teams. The pilot highlighted the positive impact of combining MLC’s structure with guided creative expression.
MLC management recognized that the pilot aligned perfectly with the institution’s mission—to provide holistic rehabilitation that prepares youth for responsible reintegration into the community.
Month 1 Highlights: Enhancing Structure, Expression, and Stability
Since the official start in late October, Month 1 of the program has supported and strengthened MLC’s ongoing efforts:
Consistent Participation
Youth attendance remains regular and stable.
Although many stay awake late due to evening television routines, they consistently participate once sessions start, showing motivation and interest.
